ESPOL positioned itself as a key institution within the publishing ecosystem of the region during the V Latin American Congress of Scientific Journal Editors and Researchers, thanks to the outstanding participation of its scientific publications: the journal Ñawi - Arte, Diseño y Comunicación, belonging to the Faculty of Art, Design and Communication (FADCOM), and the Revista Tecnológica ESPOL (RTE), the university's institutional publication.
Academics Nayeth I. Solórzano Alcívar, Ph.D., Dean of FADCOM, Executive Director of ÑAWI and Chief Director of RTE, and Katherine A. Salvador Cisneros, Ph.D., Executive Editorial Director of RTE, represented ESPOL with three papers and a poster presentation, addressing topics that strengthen the editorial work in Latin America. During two intense days, on 22 and 23 May 2025, the Congress brought together publishers, researchers and knowledge managers from all over Latin America in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
Through a collaborative approach, the speakers shared practical strategies to increase the quality, reviewer loyalty, scientific visibility and internationalisation of academic journals. The activities developed were:
Thursday 22nd May
- Presentation: ‘Analysis of challenges and strategies to strengthen collaboration in peer review’ - Ph.D. Katherine Salvador.
- Poster: ‘Motivations, challenges and expectations of reviewers in the design of loyalty strategies’ - Ph.D. Katherine Salvador and B.Sc. Wellintong Wonsang (LifeWork Adapter, USA).
Friday 23rd May
- Presentation: ‘Disciplinary integration and international collaboration: editorial strategies to enhance scientific visibility’ - Ph.D. Nayeth Solórzano.
Presentation: ‘Maximising the acceptance of scientific articles: IMRD standards and journal selection strategies’ - Ph.D. Nayeth Solórzano.

The participation of Ñawi and RTE is evidence of ESPOL's commitment to editorial excellence, open access and the internationalisation of knowledge. Ñawi, FADCOM's journal, publishes academic and scientific research on art, design and visual and audiovisual communication, with a critical, reflective and inclusive perspective from the social sciences and humanities. RTE, ESPOL's institutional journal, disseminates original scientific articles in various areas of knowledge, integrating science, technology and innovation in its editorial proposal.
Both publications, under the leadership of high-level academics, consolidate ESPOL as an institution that not only generates knowledge, but also publishes it, discusses it and projects it to the world from a rigorous, innovative and Latin American perspective.
With this strategic participation, ESPOL not only strengthened its presence in the regional editorial conversation, but also reaffirmed its role as a reference in the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Ñawi and RTE, with different but complementary styles and approaches, proudly represented the editorial work being developed at the university, projecting its vision towards a more collaborative, visible science with global impact.
