The Faculty of Art, Design, and Audiovisual Communication (FADCOM) at ESPOL hosted the educational concert “Nuances of the 19th Century: From Chopin to Debussy,” a piano recital featuring the young pianist José Zurita Pinos, who performed a challenging repertoire of classical composers under the direction of his father, Roberto Zurita del Pozo, M.Sc., a professor at FADCOM. The performance took place on August 3 in the Z001 Experimental Audiovisual Room and was attended by the dean of FADCOM, university officials, and representatives from the COPOL Educational Unit, who joined in this artistic event designed to bring the university community closer to classical music.
During the recital, José performed Frédéric Chopin’s Prelude in A-flat major, Op. 28 No. 17; Isaac Albéniz’s “Rumores de la Caleta”; and Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune”—technically demanding pieces that are part of the standard repertoire for concert pianists. José’s musical talent began to develop at a very early age.
He began his training before turning four under the guidance of his father, who is also a piano teacher. At age five, he was heard during a performance by the director of the Rachmaninoff Conservatory, who decided to award him a scholarship to continue his musical training. Since then, he has consistently participated in concerts and public performances, strengthening his performance experience.
The recital also gave the audience insight into the training process behind a young musician, demonstrating that discipline, constant practice, and academic support are essential for developing artistic talent. Through activities like this, FADCOM continues to promote cultural spaces that enrich the well-rounded development of the university community and strengthen the connection between art, education, and the promotion of emerging talent.
