The Faculty of Art, Design, and Audiovisual Communication (FADCOM) participated in the creation of two murals that incorporate art and design into the everyday environment of the polytechnic community. The works were developed under the coordination of the Multiformat Creative Services Center, with artistic direction by Gabo Peña, as part of an initiative that seeks to strengthen the presence of art in ESPOL’s spaces and contribute to the development of its visual and cultural identity.
The works, titled “Dynamis” and “Hodos,” explore two concepts linked to the college experience: energy and movement, on the one hand, and the journey and transformation, on the other. “Dynamis,” a term derived from the Greek δύναμις and associated with power or force in action, explores the latent state of human energy and its transformation into movement through sports. The work represents the physical prowess that drives the ESPOL community to challenge and overcome its own limits, celebrating the sporting spirit that characterizes ESPOL.
For its part, “Hodos,” from the Greek Ὁδός, meaning “path” or “journey,” represents the life and academic journey within ESPOL. The piece symbolizes the shared journey of those who make up the university community, where camaraderie, effort, and knowledge build a path toward a future full of purpose.
These projects were made possible thanks to the leadership and support of Dr. Cecilia Paredes Verduga, president of ESPOL, who promotes art as part of the polytechnic community’s heritage and identity.
With “Dynamis” and “Hodos,” Multiformato reaffirms the potential of design and artistic creation to transform university spaces into settings that not only serve an aesthetic function but also communicate, foster identity, and tell stories about those who are part of ESPOL.
The creation of both murals involved the participation of site assistants, FADCOM students, and other contributors.
